Weaving with Wire Online Course & Virtual Workshop
I learned how to weave with wire from Donna Kaplan back in the mid 90s and have been weaving with wire ever since. I also love to weave cloth (I’ve been weaving almost 50 years all together!), but I really love creating 3D forms, and woven metal fabric is a great material to sculpt with! It is also a great material for jewelry, basketry, or used as a mixed media material!
There are lots of examples of my work on this website that show the versatility of working with woven metal fabric! And though I have been weaving with wire for so long, I feel like I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of the possibilities! That’s why I want to bring this knowledge TO YOU! If you have any interest in wire weaving this is the course for you! Christine takes you from the beginning to the end effortlessly and gives all her knowledge along the way. Christine’s workshop opened so many new doors in my weaving world. Her handouts and videos were well thought out and pertinent to the subject. This was a new way of thinking for me, I usually follow form/function, so her encouragement to play was great. I do recommend that you buy enough wire the 1st time so you can put on a 2nd warp when the workshop is over so you don’t lose the momentum of what you’ve learned. Your mind will be blown away at the cool objects you can create with a wire warp!
What a fabulous weekend. I want to thank you for the time and effort you put into the Weaving with Wire workshop. I came away feeling inspired, excited, and confident that I could do it again on my own. I had never participated in a zoom workshop before but I found the actual format to be easy to work within and lively enough to feel like I had been a participant not just a viewer. There was enough time to accomplish the goals in each daily segment and your availability around the class time and by e-mail later on was very useful. The workbook materials will be very useful and I expect they’ll be dog-eared and well loved before long.
I wanted to thank you for including me in your first class. First saw your earrings and since then had to learn “how did she do that”! The Weaving with Wire class certainly fulfilled my expectations. Fantastic workshop! Take the three day class if you can. Christine is an art educator. She teaches the technique and sparks participant creativity. The group discussions were inspiring and supportive. My mind is thinking about the weaving as well as what can be created with the cloth!
